The Protected Areas Working Group (PAWG) Action Plan 2014-2020 aligns with the Framework for Nature Conservation and Protected Areas (Framework) in terms of time span and objectives. The Action Plan was developed during a series of planning meetings and the Annual meeting of PAWG held in July 2015.
Goals and Targets of the Programme of Work on Protected Areas
Bonn Guidelines will form part of the broader framework of the Convention on Biological Diversity to
promote and safeguard the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising out of the utilization of genetic resources. Bonn Guidelines will serve as a vital tool for the full implementation of the Convention and the safeguarding of the natural wealth on which all human societies depend.
The Action Plan was endorsed by PAWG members at the Annual Meeting and was presented to the 18th Pacific Islands Round Table (PIRT) Annual Meeting held in July 2015.
Thisstudy provided the repeatable analysis framework to estimate the coastal population by utilizing the best available global and national datasets in Pacific (poor data environment).
The objectives of this Convention, to be pursued in accordance with its relevant provisions, are the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of its components and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the utilization of genetic resources, including by appropriate access to genetic resources and by appropriate transfer of relevant technologies, taking into account all rights over those resources and to technologies, and by appropriate funding.

To increase efficacy with respect to gaining momentum with communications and conservation work, the Pacific Islands Protected Area Portal (PIPAP) was launched.
The contents represent the culmination of one year’s efforts, including working with the teams of six of the most advanced MPA networks in the region. The process of collecting information for this book involved activities in the field, conducting interviews, consultation workshops and interactions with stakeholders, government and non-government organizations, academic institutions and the private sector.

The Conference of the Parties (COP) agreed on a provisional list of global headline indicators, to assess progress at the global level towards the 2010 target (decision VII/30), and to effectively communicate trends in biodiversity related to the three objectives of the Convention. In decision VII/30 the COP established a process for testing and developing the indicators, with inputs from SBSTTA, the ad hoc Working Groups on ABS and Article 8(j), and an AHTEG on indicators for assessing progress towards the 2010 biodiversity target.
Guidelines, brochures, Indicators and published work on the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to the Convention on Biological Diversity which is an international treaty governing the movements of living modified organisms (LMOs) resulting from modern biotechnology from one country to another.
This guide was written for governments, community groups and NGOs to address coastal protection issues through ecosystem based adaptation interventions. The work was developed as a partnership between SPREP and the University of Tasmania with funding from Australian Aid and the participation of the governments of Kiribati, Samoa, Vanuatu and Tonga.
In the 30th SPREP meeting held in September this year, the meeting supported the scaling up of environment data management in the Pacific and directed the Secretariat to initiate a process for developing a full-sized project proposal to support the scaling up environmental data management work in the region.
Later in October, the Inform Project participating countries collectively agree on the need to scale up and extend the Inform Project services beyond 2022.

The Pacific Network for Environmental Assessment (PNEA) Portal is an initiative of the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) to support government officials from Pacific Island countries and territories who work with environmental impact assessment (EIA), strategic environmental assessment (SEA) as well as Environmental and Social Safeguards (ESS).
The portal complements SPREP’s current capacity building program for EIA and SEA - including the recently launched Regional EIA Guidelines, the Coastal Tourism EIA guidelines, and SEA guidelines.
